Indonesia
I was in a Reiki session once when, out of nowhere, the word “Indonesia” came to me. I don’t know if it was some kind of message from beyond or what, but right then I decided I was going to visit. Looking back, it feels fitting — Indonesia really is magical, and this trip ended up being one of my favourite trips of my life.
Indonesia took me through four very different places, each with its own personality. Here’s where I went — click on each destination for the full guide:
- Bali — the jungle, the temples, the volcano, the coffee made from poop
- The Gili Islands — no cars, stunning water, great place to meet people
- Labuan Bajo & Komodo — Komodo dragons, Pink Beach, and the best beach I’ve ever seen
- Yogyakarta — Borobudur at sunrise, a driver named Tugi, and sweet potatoes I still think about
When to Go
I went in August, right in the heart of the dry season. Sunny days, low humidity, ideal conditions for everything. I think it’s one of the best times to visit Indonesia — the weather is reliable and you can do all the outdoor activities without worrying about rain.
